still from Red Desert 1964

Michelangelo Antonioni

Visual impact can be noted as the source of motion pictures.  Compared to the vivid manipulation of ideas rolling onto a screen, much like Antonioni compiled in Red Desert. Hysteria and faded imagery of factories nearly blinding reality. In a fanasty we escape, only to find we are the eye watching distortion of reality bleed into our encompassed souls. This thought originates from what is not apparent, instead it is derived from bits and pieces sneaking into our individual minds.

Could this be brain-wash discoveries?

Or simply…our ideals of self blurred.

I shot a short video (link below) for a friend with many of these ideas in mind. Imagery being distorted and reflective relations emerging. Although my short is only a glimpse into the hyper-cyber interconnected world we live in. It is a step in hopefully discovering more of what lies beneath. Keep tune for the tracking of experimental progress.

If you ever wondered

What’s behind the curtain

The whispers of the night…if you only listened

The bubble proudly glistens

Afraid we stand aside

Knowing that if pressure is presented

It may pop and never existed

Much like the dream

We remember vividly

Speak word for word of what we linger on the tongue

As if the tanned skin were touched by the sun

Proof

Poof

Only if we wondered

Let go of the summered

Mumbling out terrified applications of false allegories

Temporary

Lost

In dreams of rhythmic like schemes

Bubbles float away

Left the reflections of lakes

Hiding behind capes

Curtains are pulled

No dreamer shall be fooled.

Emak Bakia . Man Ray . 1927

Embak-Bakia meaning ‘leave me alone’  / “the female [gives] the peace”

Ambiguous in the title.  A collection of double exposed images, stop motion and rotating artifacts. Dancing legs to a man ripping off his collar.

the way we think of dressing less.

Recently featured in Dossier Journal, as the ‘first fashion film’ created by William Claxton. Claxton, used this is an experiment of women’s imaginative ways of creating self-image. In the sixties, while defining female sexuality through fashion and the world of power in art, I see this 6 minute film directed as an invitation to exploring.

Director & Creator / William Claxton
