The Bay-Area based e-commerence business, Nasty Gal, is exposing the collision of new meets vintage in a modern approach. When I found the site, I instantly fell in love. The vintage apparel and accessories correspond to recent trends, which gives those who are normally do not shop vintage a chance to own and appreciate former fashion. Not only does Nasty Gal provide vintage, but also new merchandise from Jefferey Campbell Shoes, Wildfox Clothing, BB Dakota, Cheap Monday, Dolce Vita Shoes, and  other amazing independent designers. The owner and stylist Ms. Sophia Amorusa founded Nasty Gal in 2006. In 2010 the online store continues to grow, as seen promoted on international website LOOKBOOK.NU for collective fashion consciousness.

New York–Monday, May 17,2010

I arrived at the Brooklyn, New York home of Japanese fashion P.R., writer, creator, photographer, artist, and New York host Ms. Mari J. The interior decoration of her place was cheerful as if I were in a playhouse, reflecting much on her youthful and energetic personality. Mari J. Brooklyn introduced me to her guest Teen, a sunglass designer, who accompanied us in a lively conversation. Now, with most of my interviews, I find them more formal with long lists of questions, however what I sensed from Mari was that a casual conversation may better help me to understand who she is and what she does.

The three of us compared our hometowns. I am from the Bay Area in California, Teen from Brooklyn, New York, and Mari Tokyo,Japan. All major cities that are internationally recognized around the world. We found the fashion and culture appealing to us about both in the cities we are from and the ones would like to discover. I was born to be in New York, Tokyo native, Mari believes she was too. The history of art, music, fashion, and opportunities in all three are in New York City with a fast pace of new ideas and involving modern and classic. While, Teen feels a connection to the state of California. Teen and I both agree a trip to Japan would be a trip to a new world. The technology in Japan is far more advanced than here in the United States. Yet, when Mari visits Japan she usually is out  in nature although in the most futuristic island in the world. Ms. Brooklyn prefers to attend rave parties in the caves of her homeland than be in the city of Tokyo, where they even have pantie vending machines( yes, like soda pop) dirty and clean.

Mari has been traveling from Japan to New York and around the world for most of her life. She is an active translator and interpertor for the fashion world and was a previous street style contributor for the Japanese magazine LUSSW, which featured Mr.Kid Cudi on the cover in 2009. Mari continues to shoot photography for live events in New York City. Along with the work as a publicist and Japanese translator for designers such as Laquan Smith and Telfar. Her craft of molding fashion into her life is obvious in her original artwork hung on the walls in her apartment. She has taken pieces of scrap fabric, in which were left from one of her own design projects(she creates her own clothing and accessories as well). Ms. Brooklyn even gave me some really cool earrings as a birthday gift. Her sweetness and hospitality is amazing, she always has international and interesting guest staying with her at her home.

I love her stuffed animals, hey hey hey turtles :)

The Brooklyn native Teen has a fresh and creative energy, as she explains that she was made for Cali. The laid back and overly cool domineer is visual when seeing her relaxed and urban personal style. 3D Premiers are seen both on Mari and Teen in the photographs above.
